I'm starting to understand...

...I have a weakness.

A weakness for kitchen gadgets and food, card/board games, yarn, hello kitty, scrapbook supplies, fimo. This is the latest one in my collection. A rice cooker yay. I don't eat rice really. My daughter loves it though.

The issue, my apartment stove. The stove I used to own cooked many a thing wonderfully. This stove...not so much. I figured out that the oven cooks at least 25 degrees higher than what it is set to, and the burners...I'm not so sure.

Rice...I just don't like babysitting it. I never seem to get the proportions correctly either and I hate cleaning the pot.

But I try.

This however is the solution...at least for me. I had a friend who owned one and he just loved it. That and the ice tea maker...but I don't think I'll acquire one of those.

So today, as a first try...white rice and forbidden rice. As I was reading reviews yesterday...I ended up taking back the first rice maker I bought yesterday and purchased this one about 6 hours later...someone was talking about forbidden rice. Purple rice! What better to go with the purple potatoes...oh wait...those freaked out the daughter...well, colorful food...why not.

They'll eat pho, and asparagus, but they won't eat cheese in eggs.

On the knitting front...nothing really. I frogged a scarf and restarted it because it wasn't wide enough after suggestion by the person it's for. They said it was fine and not to frog it but...after the suggestion I just wasn't satisfied with it any longer.

I finished spinning the roving from Pagosa Springs. Now I'm starting to ply.

My wheel is squeaking a little, I'm not sure where it's coming from. It's driving me quite crazy. I've oiled everything I could think of. Argh. Suggestions? Anyone?

First time as a 2 ply. Not too bad.

Back from the beyond...

...well mostly.

I have been sick. My lovely flu turned into walking pnemonia and took me out of work for about a week and a half. I feel so behind right now, at work, at home, in my life. However, slowly but surely things are returning to normal. Slower than I would prefer of course.

I didn't get much knitting done while I was out. I did watch a lot of TV and napped. I don't think that people who have never had children really understand the scope of being sick. Going to work for 8 hours and then come home to work another 8 hours getting the kids, fed, washed, played with, read to, put to bed. Getting a good 6-8 hours of sleep just isn't enough to get better.

This is the progress on the blanket so far. It's a little bigger.

My spinning has been going slow. But I do love this dragon spindle.

My son graduated to a big boy bed. He's been doing fairly good at staying put at night. *sniff* Babies grow up too fast.

I think the most I've gotten since I got sick has been *finally* replacing my dishes. My dish set was a Noritake Colorwave in plum. It was nice. It was basically picked for me by my former mother-in-law. I thought we would go to 2-3 stores for dinnerware when she offered to buy us some, but we went to 1 store, and I thought the set was okay. Frankly, it was too expensive in my opinion. I wanted a black set I saw at Target, but we never made it there.

So, finally now after, what 2 years, of being divorced I have replaced that set with a set I do like, and that didn't cost a small fortune. They're teal and black and lovely AND something I picked.

I especially like my little fish dipping set. Target is so much fun.

Ah, a Sunday...

I finally finished the roving I bought in Estes Park. It turned out beautiful. I'm not sure if I'd like spinning on a wheel, but I do enjoy the process of spinning on the drop spindle.

I'm not sure if I'll ever find anything to do with the yarn I spin. I just love watching the colors. I am happy how it turned out. I had much more consistancy in the thread this time.

I've also conquered the appliances. I have thus far fixed my vacuum cleaner and now my hand held blender. With satisfaction I can now go join my little duck.

I'm here I'm here

Over here on the right...the progress on the gray scarf for my friend the Student. I think that next time I will modify the cable pattern so that there are only 3 columns instead of 4. It's turning out to be quite large.

Oh, and looky here...apparently now is the time to redo. Wow...look at that...my patience for the scarf that's taking too damn long was right now. Even one of my male co-workers eyed it warily...the width really was ridiculous and I had botched the pattern at the bottom.

Oh, oh...and now it's a happy wound skein of non frusteration. I will start it again soon I'm sure. After all scarves are great for small projects easily transportable to the office. Blanket are not.
I would start it now...but over the weekend my food processor and I and I exchanged words...and well...after all was said and done...I lost. Thank goodness no need for stitches...I was just very very surprised and got a lesson in how to bandage wounds.
